چکیده

Two trials were conducted each using 240 Chinese Ringneck pheasant breeder hens (Phasianus colchicus torquatus) to determine the economics of feeding various levels of Brewers Dried Grains (BDG) on egg production, fertility, hatchability, and feed consumption. Four treatment diets containing 0, 15, 30, and 45% BDG were fed to 3 replicate pens each, beginning 1 week prior to the onset of lay. Egg production and fertility from BDG fed hens were found to be lower than from control fed hens. Hatchability of fertile eggs was higher (Pc.05) in hens fed diets containing 30 and 45% BDG. Based upon number of live chicks produced per hen, economic advantage was highest in groups receiving 30% BDG in the diet. The inclusion of BDG in the diets of pheasant breeder hens had a favorable influence on hatchability and total number of live chicks produced per hen.

How Many Pheasants (Phasianus colchicus L.) can be Removed? A Study on Small- Protected Areas in Italy

In Italy the maintenance and the increase of wild pheasant populations is mainly obtained in small-Protected Areas (PA) suitable for wildlife reproduction. In these areas a part of the resident population is regularly captured and transferred to the hunting zones in the winter time. The aim of the study is to determine the right number of pheasant to be removed from this protected area without ...

Comparison of the replication of influenza A viruses in Chinese ring-necked pheasants and chukar partridges.

We investigated the replication and transmission of avian influenza A viruses in two species thought to be intermediate hosts in the spread of influenza A viruses in live poultry markets: Chinese ring-necked pheasants and chukar partridges. All 15 hemagglutinin subtypes replicated in pheasants, and most subtypes transmitted to naïve contact pheasants, primarily via the fecal-oral route. Many vi...

The main aim of the present work was to find out whether intensive fattening of pheasant poults can provide high-quality pheasant meat. The study is a pilot work in this area because until now pheasant rearing has only produced pheasants for the purpose of hunting. In this experiment three feeding mixtures were designed; nutritional and energetic composition of the mixtures complied with the re...

Evaluation of pheasant semen production during the reproductive season.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the quality and quantity of semen production of pheasants during the reproductive season. Fifty-five male pheasants (Phasianus colchicus mongolicus) were used from 37-59 weeks of age. Semen samples were collected manually on a biweekly basis. At 45 weeks of age, pheasants which had never produced (n = 22) or only produced occasionally (n = 7) were discar...
